Outdoor Education

Every year, students embark on a week long outdoor experience. The purpose of the outdoor education program is to promote school community, class unity, and awareness while offering individuals the opportunity to address their weaknesses and build on their strengths. The physical challenges are appropriate for each age group and carefully monitored by both professional outdoor educators and Sage Ridge School faculty. Settings and activities are chosen to create an experience that is both challenging and rewarding.

The following is a list of locations and activities in which the students participate by grade level:

Fifth Grade: The fifth grade will travel to Camp Galilee serviced by the Great Basin Outdoor School on the west shore of Lake Tahoe, Ca. On the trip students will explore different trails and sleep in modern bunkhouses separated by gender.

Sixth Grade: The sixth grade will travel to the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. They will spend the week exploring trails at the Headlands Institute near Sausalito, California.

Seventh Grade: While visiting Point Reyes National Park, the seventh grade will camp at Olema Ranch campground. The seventh graders will use the services of Naturalists at Large and get a chance to backpack and stay at Sky Camp or Coast Camp in the Point Reyes National Seashore area.
